“The dots all join up…it’s connected.”

It’s not really a trailer, right? Nintendo’s newly released Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition overview video does a lot more than just promote the game. In 6-1/2 minutes, it details game features, provides more story information, digs deeper into the environment and customization options, and…gives us a few key hints of things to come.

Let’s take a look, shall we?

And now, let’s recap (for SEO purposes).

As anyone with a Wii U knows, Xenoblade Chronicles X is set in the year is 2054, soon after Earth has been destroyed in an intergalactic war. A ship of survivors escapes the catastrophe only to crash land on the habitable but decidedly unfriendly planet of Mira. Your (customizable) character awakens from a pod and quickly becomes a key figure in the humans’ race for survival.

That race will include…

  • Exploring a New Planet: Mira is a sprawling world with five massive continents, each with its own distinct biomes, weather and diverse array of organisms. You can (eventually) move seamlessly between these continents, but the journey is fraught with danger.
  • Living in a New Los Angeles: Your new home and one of the last bastions of humanity. New Los Angeles is divided into districts—commercial, industrial, BLADE, and residential—where you can interact with allies and residents, purchase new weapons and gear, and much more.
  • Mastering a Deep Battle System: Gain a tactical advantage in combat by employing a variety of customizable special attacks and skills called Arts. These Arts will vary based on the Class of each character.

  • Taking On Numerous Missions: As a member of the Builders of the Legacy After the Destruction of Earth (BLADE), you’ll assist the residents of NLA and Earth’s survivors by accepting their various requests. These missions will further the story, strengthen your affinity with your party members, provide various rewards, and more.
  • Building and Customizing Skells: These powerful armored vehicles were developed to fly, transform into vehicles and wield immense strength in battle. Multiple Skells can be obtained, each with different characteristics that can be customized to suit your combat style (and color preferences).
  • Working Together: Nintendo Online subscribers can join a squad of up to 31 other players online and work together to complete tasks such as collecting a certain number of items or destroying specific enemies. Up to four squad members can also team up online and face off against powerful foes. Even cooler, you can even recruit the avatars of other players to your team in the main story!
  • Going Beyond the Original Adventure: New adventures await on Mira. The Definitive Edition for Switch includes a new location to explore, new characters to encounter, and newly added story content to experience. “The fight isn’t over yet – humanity still needs you!”

If you’re reading this, you likely already have your preorder in. If not, here’s a little more incentive…depending upon how you plan to buy it. Players who purchase the digital version in the Nintendo eShop or the My Nintendo Store before April 6th will receive an in-game Exploration Support Package containing helpful items to jumpstart your adventure, including credits, weapons, armor and more. If GameStop is your preference, both the physical or digital versions will include a code (available while supplies last) for the pack, redeemable on Nintendo eShop.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition launches on March 20th. Request the day off (and probably the following Friday) now.
