EA Sports FC 25 Is Adding Diego Maradona On Feb. 14 After Being Pulled From FIFA Series In 2022

Electronic Arts has confirmed that it will be adding Diego Maradona to EA Sports FC 25 on February 14, nearly three years after the legendary footballer was removed from the series (then known as FIFA) back in March 2022.

Maradona was “suspected” from FIFA 22 as a result of a “third party legal dispute,” which seemingly originated from a debate as to who owns the rights to Maradona’s likeness. In 2021, an Argentinian court ruled that EA had possibly negotiated with the wrong party, and as a result had to cut the football from the game until the issue could be resolved.

Infobae, an Argentinian news website, reported in November 2021 that the court had found that a commercial agreement had been inked between EA and Maradona’s former manager, Stefano Ceci. However, the court’s conclusion was that Ceci was no longer in possession of legal authority to make such a deal.

The Diego Armando Maradona brand rights were granted to the footballer’s company Sattvica, according to Maradon’s lawyer, but in March 2021 the firm was banned from using the brand due to a complaint filed by Maradona’s daughters.
