DOOM: The Dark Ages Game Director Hugo Martin Confirms The Upcoming Prequel Isn’t The End, “I Like Making DOOM Games”
DOOM: The Dark Ages is the third game in developer id Software’s rebooted DOOM series that began with DOOM (2016), and if you were concerned that id Software was going to close the door on the series again after a trilogy, don’t be.
Game director on DOOM: The Dark Ages Hugo Martin confirmed, in a very straightforward way, that this is not the end of id’s DOOM games.
“It [DOOM: The Dark Ages] isn’t designed to be the end of something,” Martin told PC Gamer at a preview event for DOOM: The Dark Ages. Martin even made it clear that he’s not feeling tired of working on the series.
Martin said, “I like making DOOM games. I wouldn’t have a problem doing this for a long time.”
It’s good to know that we can expect more DOOM to come for the foreseeable future, even beyond The Dark Ages when it launches this coming May 2025. Martin also clarified though that for now, the team is focused on The Dark Ages, and that while The Dark Ages looks to be a step-up in regards to focusing on narrative, the team at id isn’t looking at what DOOM 4 will look like right now.
“Genuinely, sincerely, we’re really just focused on this right now,” Martin said, before clarifying again that The Dark Ages isn’t the final game by saying that the game isn’t “a period on the end of a sentence.”
DOOM: The Dark Ages had its biggest showcase of gameplay yet at yesterday’s Xbox Developer Direct event, and confirmed its launch date for May 15, 2025.
