Black Myth Wukong Success Reportedly Saw Phantom Blade Zero Given ‘Substantial’ New Investment
S-Game’s Phantom Blade Zero reportedly saw a significant new investment thanks to the success of Game Science‘s Black Myth: Wukong.
That’s according to Daniel Camilo, a China-based publisher and gaming consultant, who noted that his sources claim that Phantom Blade Zero netted extra investment due to Wukong’s success, while nothing that S-Game’s project was already in an advanced state of development at the time of Black Myth’s launch.
To be clear, the success of Wukong did not by itself trigger all funding for Phantom Blade Zero, Phantom Blade Zero was [already] very advanced in development once Wukong launched. The tremendous success of Wukong in China in particular signaled to many investors that AAA gaming is the new golden egg. Many studios saw investments coming their way after Wukong released. This is not news.

What is news is that Phantom Blade Zero did get a substantial amount of extra investments and funding thanks to the success of Wukong, allegedly. Both my sources agree that even before the actual release of Wukong, S-GAME got new funding thanks to all the hype/metrics surrounding Wukong.
Phantom Blade Zero is an upcoming action-RPG developed by S-Game for the PS5, and is currently without a release date. You check out the latest gameplay footage of the game here, which depicts the use of snake-themed weapons against a boss.
Black Myth: Wukong meanwhile was released for the PS5 and PC in August 2024, and sold a staggering 20 million copies during its first month alone.
