Nintendo saw Switch 2 backwards compatibility as the “best direction” for the platform

Yesterday finally gave us the reveal of the Switch 2 after literally years of rumors and speculation. While we don’t know a ton about the platform, we at least know its form-factor and some functionality. That includes new details on backwards compatibility with Switch, and apparently that was a very important aspect for Nintendo.

Back in November of last year, Nintendo confirmed backwards compatibility for Switch 2. Yesterday we learned that that feature included support for both physical game cards and digital games. It’s literally the best outcome you could hope for, and should make for a much easier transition to Switch 2 for some consumers.

Wondering why Nintendo saw backwards compatibility a must? The Big N shared a statement on the matter with Game File, and you can read their comment below.
