You Don’t Have The Right, O You Don’t Have The Right, To Leave Messages To Other Players In Elden Ring: Nightreign
Elden Ring: Nightreign is definitely not what FromSoftware fans expected the next project from the acclaimed developer would be, but it’s coming regardless, and will arrive on PS5 and other current-gen platforms sometime in 2025.
It’s immediately clear to any FromSoftware veteran that this game will be very different than what we’ve seen out of FromSoftware in recent memory, something made even more apparent by the fact that, as director Junya Ishizaki explained in a recent interview, players will not be able to leave each other messages in Nightreign.
In an interview with IGN Japan (spotted by MP1st), Ishizaki explained that the beloved community feature that is a key part of the experience of playing most FromSoftware titles, will not be included in Nightreign.
“The reason we removed the message function is that in this game, where each session is about 40 minutes long, there is no time to write your own message and no time to read messages written by others,” Ishizaki said.
An unfortunate, but understandable reality given how the structure of Nightreign is nothing like previous FromSoftware games. The nature of the game is that players are stressed for time from the jump, rather than having all the time in the world to explore and take chances on hints (or traps) players leave for each other in messages.
Sad as it may be, this news confirms that Elden Ring: Nightreign players will not be able to tell each other to ‘Try finger but hole’. At least through messages left on the ground, that is.
