The World Of Elden Ring And Elden Ring: Nightreign Run Parrallel To Each Other, Director Confirms

Elden Ring, as anyone whoβs played it knows, is abundant with lore and narrative for players to find if they dig deep enough and pay close enough attention to their surroundings, from physical items to the very landscape of the world.
βSo where the heck does Elden Ring: Nightreign fit in?β β is the question that Elden Ring lore-heads had on their minds with Nightreignβs reveal at The Game Awards 2024.
Nowhere, it would seem, according to director Junya Ishizaki. In a recent interview with IGN Japan, Ishizaki confirmed that the worlds of Elden Ring and Elden Ring: Nightreign run parallel to each other, and are not related. Thatβs why FromSoftware has been purposeful in calling Nightreign a βspin-offβ title.
But why is Elden Ring attached at all? FromSoftware is of course more than capable of making up a new fantasy world if it wanted to make a new co-op game. Well, besides (probably) brand recognition, the worlds are connected, until theyβre fractured β pun intended.
ββElden Ring: Nightreignβ is a spin-off of βElden Ring.β The two share the same worldview in the period leading up to the βFracture War.β After the Fracture War, the worldview is completely different,β said Ishizaki. ββElden Ring: Nightreignβ is a parallel world of βElden Ring.’β
βThe reason why we chose a parallel world,β he continued, βis because we wanted to respect the story that βElden Ringβ players experienced. βElden Ring: Nightreignβ is a different story from βElden Ring,β so I think that people who have an attachment to βElden Ringβ can play it with peace of mind.β
Itβs a comfort to know then, that lore-hunters can rest when it comes to Nightreign and Elden Ring comparisons. Though, knowing FromSoftware, there will be plenty of new lore-digging to do thatβs all Nightreign-focused.
