Playtika has entered into an agreement to acquire Dice Dreams developer SuperPlay in a deal that could be worth up to $1.95 billion.
The agreement will see the publisher pay $700 million up-front for the studio with an additional $1.25bn subject to achieving certain financial targets over the next three years.
The company said the deal would add “an experienced team to Playtika with a track record of launching new, successful games”. It expects SuperPlay to be a “meaningful growth driver” once the purchase is complete.
The acquisition is expected to close in Q4 2024.
Dream deal
“We see the acquisition of SuperPlay as a key move in strengthening Playtika’s leadership in mobile gaming, driving growth with scaled titles, and unlocking new opportunities,” said Playtika CEO Robert Antokol.
“SuperPlay’s proven talent and success in navigating complex environments align seamlessly with our team. Together, we’re expanding our ability to deliver exceptional experiences to players worldwide.”
SuperPlay co-CEOs Gilad Almog and Eyal Netzer commented: “We’re incredibly excited for this opportunity. It is a testament to our amazing team who bring creativity and passion to everything we make. With Playtika’s backing and support, we’ll continue growing the most memorable and engaging games in their category, and exchange knowledge that will propel each other to new heights.”
SuperPlay was founded in 2019 by former Playtika employees Ilad Almog and Eyal Netzer, and ex-Rovio senior game designer Elad Drory.
The studio’s flagship game is ‘coin looter’ title Dice Dreams, which it released in October 2019.
According to AppMagic, the game has generated $466.8 million in gross revenue ($326.8m net) to date. PocketGamer.biz spoke to co-founder Drory earlier this year about the title’s growth, which is having its best year to date.
Its second title is Domino Dreams, released in January 2023. That game has accumulated $41.4m from player spending to date, as per AppMagic estimates. August 2024 was said to be its best month yet as the title continues to scale.
