A “Major Showcase” Of Marathon Reportedly Won’t Come Until Spring 2025
A report from Forbes claims that Bungie won’t do a “major showcase” for its upcoming live service shooter Marathon until Spring 2025.
According to Forbes’ source, the most we’ll get this year is potentially a short video from the game director Joe Ziegler to provide some clarification on what’s been happening with Marathon so far, but that’s it.
Bungie fans will have to wait though for any kind of proper gameplay reveal. Interestingly, the source also corroborated reports regarding Marathon having a $40 price tag, saying that not only are those true, but that it’s still more than likely Marathon will be a premium purchase game, not free-to-play.
It goes further to claim that the decision ties back to Helldivers 2 being a runaway success at $40, and that Concord’s recently failure both did nothing to sway decision makers about Marathon’s price, and it’s also far too late in the process to revert to a free-to-play model now anyways.
The report also includes a few game details, such as claims that Marathon’s heroes can be thought of as comparable to the heroes you play as in Apex Legends, though Marathon will offer more customization, which mainly sounds like it’ll come from how you can customize weapons.
It also touches on the fact that Ziegler took over from Chris Barrett, who was recently fired due to inappropriate conduct. All the insight the source offers is that the transition from Barrett to Ziegler is what made the heroes take more of a focus, as Barrett’s previous plan “were just not coming together in practice.”
