Skyrim’s Massive ‘Skyblivion’ Mod Looks Incredible, But It’s Apparently Too Big For Xbox
There’s been so much attention around Fallout 4’s big PC mod known as Fallout: London recently, but sadly there’s no sign of an Xbox (or any other console) release for it right now – despite the developers showing an interest.
We’re seeing a similar situation with Skyblivion as well, which just revealed its first look at gameplay this week ahead of a release in 2025. You can watch it up above, but don’t get too excited if you don’t own a good enough PC.
This remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim might look incredible, but apparently it’s simply too big to fit on consoles. Another problem is the lack of support for the Skyrim Script Extender.
Will Skyblivion be released on consoles?
“No. We can’t make it fit on consoles due to the overall size. Also there’s no SKSE on consoles, which we need in order to bring everyone the best possible experience.”
Want more bad news? We don’t think Skyblivion will work with the PC Game Pass version of Skyrim when it launches in 2025, as that version is limited in terms of the mods it can support. Things could obviously change in a year though.
So, why are we bringing it to your attention in the first place? Well, we just think it looks awesome, and this is another very significant mod coming to an Xbox first-party game… albeit on PC. The gameplay footage above is fast approaching 1 million views, and Bethesda has been promoting Skyblivion’s progress on social media this week.
Here’s hoping that with so many great mods finding their way to Xbox’s PC versions these days, the next Xbox consoles will be more capable of supporting them. Plenty are already supported on Xbox, of course (we’re loving Starfield’s Creations suite), but it’s always sad to see situations like this where a console release appears impossible.
“Skyblivion is a fan made recreation of the 4th Elder Scrolls game, Oblivion, in the Skyrim engine. Our goal is to bring the Elder Scrolls community a free remaster of Oblivion that includes all weapons, armors, quests, locations and NPC’s. All of this free of charge.”
