Summoners War celebrates 10th anniversary with $3 billion in lifetime revenue

  • 10 years on, more than 50% of the MMO’s earnings have come from America and Europe
  • Summoners War has had a physical presence in over 70 countries to date

Strategy MMO Summoners War: Sky Arena has surpassed $3 billion in lifetime earnings as of its 10th anniversary, with more than 90% of that revenue coming from overseas.

South Korean developer Com2Us first launched Summoners War domestically in April 2014 and expanded to a global rollout that June. Now, 10 years on, more than 50% of the MMO’s earnings have come from America and Europe.

A decade in the making

The number of global summoners has increased 20 times over since 2014 and the monster count has quadrupled to 1,600. Through esports events, tours and game shows, Summoners War has had a physical presence in over 70 countries over the last decade.

The $1 billion milestone was reached in August 2017, just ahead of that year’s Summoners War World Arena Championship, and the game broke $2 billion three years later in August 2020. The third billion has taken slightly longer to reach – almost four years instead of three – but even after a decade the game hasn’t seen significant spending slowdown.

Another milestone the game achieved was 100 million downloads, reached in 2019.

This has since doubled to 200 million, and because of its ongoing success, Com2Us has continued to support the original Summoners War with a stream of fresh content even after the launch of its sequels, Summoners War: Lost Centuria and Summoners War: Chronicles. In fact, these titles all receive updates like seasonal events with new characters, bosses and more.

With the undeniably successful Summoners War just one part of its portfolio, Com2Us has landed a sport in our Top 50 Mobile Game Makers list every year since 2015. The developer is also known for MLB 9 Innings, and for playing a major role in the blockchain drive between 2020 and 2022.

More recently, in February 2024, Com2Us moved its American HQ from LA to Hollywood, just off Sunset Strip at 6255 West Sunset Boulevard.
