Brainspark Games raises £1.4 million towards building educational AI mobile game

  • Brainspark Games has raised £1.4 million from Innovate UK Investor Partnership grant and a match-funded angel investment
  • FOV Ventures and The Games Angels led the round

London-based Brainspark Games has raised a total of £1.4 million coming from its seventh Innovate UK Investor Partnership grant and match-funded angel investment.

The round was led by FOV Ventures partners Dave Haynes and Petri Rajahalme, and The Games Angels’ Wahed Ventures and Nick Button-Brown.

Investment also came from Islée Oliva Salinas, Michael A. C. Buckley, Märt Lume, Sadik Miah, and others.

These “Super Angels” included games industry veterans, institutional backers, exited founders, education veterans, and seasoned investors while some individuals have chosen to remain anonymous, investing privately.

Making education fun

The funds raised will be used towards developing tech, production, and sales talent. £700,000 of that sum is attributed to Brainspark’s seventh Innovate UK Investor Partnership grant which, when combined with the prior six, brings its total grants to £1.3 million.

Investors matched the latest £700,000, hence £1.4 million in fundraising from this latest round alone. These funds come after Brainspark’s team has spent two years in research and development with experts in game development, education, and child psychology.

The company was founded by mother-of-three Reedah El-Saie in a desire to drive innovation and create educational games for children of all ages. Brainspark is currently building AI-powered mobile games focused on the UK national curriculum, including History, Maths, and English Literature.

El-Saie also invested £470,000 in seed funding for the early stages.

“FOV Ventures believes we’re entering a new era of increasingly intelligent and immersive apps and experiences. By leveraging technology such as AI/XR we’re excited for Brainspark Games and Reedah’s mission to radically augment and enhance how the UK curriculum can be delivered to diverse students,” said Haynes, who has been investing in XR for five years.

Juicy Button Games recently raised $3 million in a seed round led by The Games Fund, working to create a mobile-first 4X strategy title.
