Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 dev gives incredibly confusing answer on Nintendo support

After literally years of legal battles and roadblocks, Microsoft completed their acquisition of Activision Blizzard. During that time, Microsoft pledged that if they did secure Activision Blizzard, they would be bringing Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms day-and-date with other versions. You’d think that would mean the recently-announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 would be a lock for Switch, right? Well…

Game File had the chance to chat with Yale Miller, director of production at Treyarch, the studio behind Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. During the discussion, the aforementioned Nintendo x Call of Duty support was brought up. There’s been absolutely no mention of Black Ops 6 going to Switch, nor was Nintendo mentioned in any way, shape or form. Wondering what’s up with that? Here’s what Miller had to say…

Right now, for us, the focus is the gaming and the platforms, so that is what we’re talking about, so that is what we’re focused on right now.

There are times when it’s obvious that a game dev is dodging a question and isn’t quite sure what to say, and this is very much one of those moments. That said, the statement is such a word salad of confusion that it’s hard to know exactly what Miller was or wasn’t getting at. It doesn’t help that a PR person followed up Miller’s response by stating, “It’s not on the listed platforms.” After that comment, the interview moved in another direction.

Microsoft was very loud about their support of Nintendo platforms when they were wooing all parties involved to try and get their Activision Blizzard acquisition through. That makes it all the more disappointing that they’ve gone essentially radio silent now. Let’s hope this is just a case of Microsoft tiptoeing around an impending announcement at this month’s Nintendo Direct.
