Hogwarts Legacy Beaten By Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom As UK’s Biggest Boxed Launch Of 2023 So Far

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has debuted at number one on the UK All Format Chart, dethroning Hogwarts Legacy as the country’s biggest physical launch of the year so far. That’s impressive considering the game is only available on the Nintendo Switch, too.

The latest entry in The Legend of Zelda series beat Hogwarts Legacy’s first week performance by more than 50%, and also recorded the best week-one boxed sales of any Zelda title in the UK to date. It’s not as if it didn’t have any competition, either; we’re talking about a chart full of games like the aforementioned Hogwarts Legacy, plus Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, FIFA 23, and Mario Kart 8.

Hogwarts Legacy remains one of the biggest success of the year so far, having sold over 15 million copies worldwide.

Last week, a data mine revealed that Hogwarts Legacy was originally intended to feature a morality/reputation system. Chances are this may have tied into the use of Unforgivable Curses, as in the final game you are free to wield things like the Killing Curse without any ramifications.
