What is NYT Strands?

Strands is one of the New York Times’ many online brainteasers. It’s a deceptively simple word game where the goal is to find all of the words in the grid that fit the given theme. However, unlike a standard word search, the letters aren’t always in a straight or diagonal line.

Each puzzle consists of a group of words that fit the theme, and a final word called a spangram which pulls everything together. For example, if the words you found were ‘banana’, ‘pineapple’, etc, the spangram would be ‘fruit’. Remember, the spangram always touches both sides of the grid, either vertically or horizontally, which should make it slightly easier to find.
