Resident Evil 9 Will Reportedly Be Building Off The Open-World Capabilities Built Into The RE Engine For Dragon’s Dogma 2

Capcom hasn’t said much of anything when it comes to the next entry in the Resident Evil franchise, the game we’re all assuming will be Resident Evil 9.

In fact, Capcom hasn’t really said anything. All we’ve heard about Resident Evil 9 comes from leaker Dusk Golem, so it’s unsurprising that there’s another possible tidbit of information on RE9, again from Dusk Golem.

This time, Dusk claimed to have knowledge of how Capcom approves projects, saying the company will green light projects three at a time, with each of the three games also being opportunities to improve their internal technologies.

Resident Evil 9, according to Dusk Golem, is part of a trio of games that includes Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds, two open-world games that expanded the capabilities of Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine.

“Dragons Dogma 2 expanded RE Engine functionality for open world games, the two other games building on this tech is Monster Hunter Wild & Resident Evil 9” Dusk Golem said on Twitter.

Of course, each project that uses the RE Engine builds off the last. That’s not surprising nor is it really a ‘leak’ of any sort since it’s just something that makes sense.

What is interesting to consider though is that with the RE Engine being expanded to be useful for open-world games, we could see some open-world design features bleed into Resident Evil 9.

With that said however, Golem is clear to say that Capcom is primarily focused on keeping true to the DNA of the franchises these projects reside in. So don’t expect the next Resident Evil to be an entirely open-world game.

But it would definitely be cool to see a Resident Evil game with a larger map and more exploration than ever before.
