Match #1. No DQ: Sammy Guevara vs. Powerhouse Hobbs

Sammy pounces early and sends Hobbs over the top with a big clothesline. Hobbs charges outside and hits the guardrail hard. Sammy sets up the steps and springboards off of them, but Hobbs catches him, walks up the steps, and plants him with the World’s Strongest Slam! A second World’s Strongest Slam on the apron now. Hobbs focuses on Kevin Kelly now and demands he takes his belt off, and he does. Hobbs uses the belt on Sammy on the outside, but Sammy counters with a pair of superkicks. Sammy grabs a chair and lays Hobbs before planting him with a Van Daminator. Sammy sets up a table now and skips a chair over the table into Hobbs’ face. Now Sammy sets up a second table. Sammy heads up top and Hobbs is on the apron now and Sammy dives, Hobbs catches him, and spinebusters him through the tables! Hobbs is in control throughout the commercial break, but he heads up top and Sammy grabs him from behind. GTH by Sammy! One, two, no! Sammy gets a second wind and goes outside to grab a computer monitor, and blasts Hobbs in the face with it! Sammy now looks to set up another table, but Hobbs drills him with a lariat. Superkick by Sammy and now the double jump cutter but Hobbs catches him! ANOTHER World’s Strongest Slam! Long two. Sammy takes a drink from someone at ringside, grabs the bottle, and breaks it over Hobbs head! Another bottle! Sammy lays Hobbs on the tables on the outside, and now sets up the ladder in the ring. It’s literally 15 feet in the air. Sammy hits the swanton from the ladder in the ring through Hobbs and the tables on the floor! Back in the ring, Sammy sets up yet another table, and he goes up top. Hobbs throws the referee into Sammy, crotching him on the top rope. Hobbs heads up to the top with Sammy now and hits the World’s Strongest Slam through the table for the win!

Winner: Powerhouse Hobbs

Rating: ***1/2. This was the car crash you expected it to be. Did they overdo it? Of course. Did Sammy setting up a table in the ring AFTER he put Hobbs through a table on the outside make sense? OF course not. But this was fun for what it was and Sammy got to be Sammy, while Hobbs still got a big win. Fun opener.

The BCC are here. Moxley tells a story about how Claudio walked 20 miles to his first training session with William Regal, but the BCC don’t get paid by the hour and 20 minutes is nothing. Claudio says if Moxley is talking about tag team wrestling, he’s thinking about Midnight Express, Arn and Tully, Jim Crockett. Claudio says they create the style and the wrestling they want to see today, but if FTR wants to live in the past, they can. Moxley says that can’t be all that they had last week, while the BCC barely got started. Moxley says FTR will have to swim in deep water at Revolution.

Match #2. FTR vs. Shane Taylor Promotions

Shotgun dropkick by Dax but a clothesline by Taylor in return. Taylor jaws with Cash as he and Moriarty hit a double clothesline for a one count. Quick tags between STP before we go to commercial. Back from break and Dax looks for a body slam but Taylor shifts his weight and gets a two. Moriarty is in with a crucifix to Dax and Taylor drops him with a knee. Short arm clothesline to Moriarty and a flying clothesline to Taylor. European uppercut to the back of the neck and a diving cutter to Moriarty for two. Suplex from the outside in but Taylor trips Cash and Moriarty gets two. Huge right hand from Taylor on the outside and Moriarty gets a two count. Blind tag to Dax and the powerbomb/neckbreaker combo finishes this one!

Winner: FTR

Rating: **3/4. Would have loved to see this one get some more time, but it was used to build the tag match at Revolution, and that’s what it did.

After the match, FTR says to be a king, you’ve got to kill a king. Top Guys… out!

Match #3. Thunder Rosa vs. Lady Bird Monroe

Chops by Rosa and forearms in the corner. Rosa misses a chop now and Monroe responds with some of her own, and a running European uppercut in the corner. Rating: NR

Renee is in the back with Kris Statlander, Willow Nightingale, and Big Stoke. Stoke apologized for last week and almost called someone a ho, but instead Statlander challenges Skye Blue for next week on Rampage.

Match #4. Jay White, Daddy Ass, & Colten Gunn vs Iron Savages

Caster messes up the rhyme and can’t recover, poor guy. Eye poke and a shoulder block by Gunn but Boulder runs him over with a shoulder block. Boulder and Bronson look for Titty City, but Gunn sends in Bronson instead. Big dropkick by Colten, who’s now legal. Gunn misses a charge in the corner and eats some steel steps on the way down. Bronson quickly covers for two. Jameson in now but White gets the hot tag and clears the ring with chops to everyone. Uranage to Jameson but Boulder breaks it up with a splash, but White sees it coming and he crushes Jameson. Fameasser to Boulder! Flying elbow to the back by Jameson and Bladerunner finishes this one.

Winners: Bang Bang Scissor Gang

Rating: NR

Lexi Nair is with Bryan Danielson. Danielson says he respects Akiyama, but Kingston will have to watch that on commentary tonight. Danielson does not respect Kingston, however. Danielson mocks Kingston’s interview habits and says Kingston has had more potential than anyone he’s ever met, and he’s wasted it, up until this last year. Not only does Danielson not respect Kingston, but his wasted potential pisses off Danielson.

Match #5. Bryan Keith vs. Malakai Black

Both men trade arm ringers and head locks early on. Black hits the ropes and Keith connects with a big boot. Hard chops by Keith in the corner and some leg kicks, but Black checks them and returns fire. Snap suplex by Keith and a PK. Two count. Black goes back to the leg kicks and finishes the combo with a high knee that sends Keith to the apron. Push kick from Black and Keith hits the floor, and guardrail, pretty hard. Roundhouse kicks on the floor by Black. Both guys locked in a Thai clinch now, delivering knees to one another. Cradle by Keith for two. Pair of rolling elbows and a big boot by Keith, followed by an Exploder. Ushigaroshi by Keith gets a two count. Black gets sent up and over on the apron but comes off the top with a diving double stomp. Running knee by Black and a snap German suplex with a bridge that gets two. High knee by Keith. Tiger Bomb! 2.99! Keith charges but walks right into the Black Mass and that’ll do it!

Winner: Malakai Black

Rating: ***1/2. Man this was awesome. Would have loved about another ten minutes, but Keith got a lot here and he’s been one of the better signings for AEW.

After the match, lights go out.

Lights come back on… and here’s Mark Briscoe with a kendo stick! The rest of the House of Black shows up and Briscoe lays them out with the stick. Briscoe has the spike but misses and Black drills him with the Black Mass. Dante’s Inferno to Briscoe!

Match #6. Serena Deeb vs. Lady Frost

Knuckl lock and a two count for Frost. Straitjacket by Frost but Deeb shimmies herself out. Deeb runs into a pair of boots and a dropkick from Frost. Frost handsprings over Deeb but gets run over by a shoulder block. Deeb rolls through into a leg lace right into a reverse figure four. Frost fights back with some chops in the corner as we go to commercial break. Dragon screw leg whip as we come back from break and Deeb fires in some left hands. Neckbreaker through the ropes by Deeb. Swinging neckbreaker by Deeb gets a two count. Frost cartwheels out of the corner into an Air Raid Crash! Long two count. Deeb ducks a spinning back kick and connects with a Pepsi Twist. Deeb calls for the single leg Boston Crab and locks it in. Frost taps!

Winner: Serena Deeb

Rating: **1/2.These two worked really well together and Frost can seemingly work well with anyone in AEW. Hopefully we get the All Elite graphic with her sooner rather than later.

Deeb takes the mic and says the women’s division is heating up. Any woman that wants to step up to Deeb’s Dojo is more than welcome.

Eddie Kingston joins the commentary table, which can only mean one thing.

Danielson tries a suicide dive but Akiyama cuts him off with an elbow. Akiyama in control with a chin lock, but Danielson backs him up to the corner and Akiyama gives him a clean break. Danielson takes advantage and leg kicks him, but Akiyama says “bring it” and fires some kicks of his own back, and a sliding knee to the face. Danielson on the apron now and Akiayama is stomping the face, before delivering a running knee to the back of the head off the apron! Akiyama wants a brainbuster on the floor but Danielson counters with a vertical suplex. Running knee strike by Danielson off of the apron that glances Akiyama. Back in the ring and Danielson comes off the top with a shotgun dropkick. Running boot in the corner by Danielson. Two. Danielson tries a third but Akiyama catches him with a lariat! Yes Kicks by Danielson but Akiyama catches one… Exploder! Two count. Guillotine choke by Akiayama but Danielson makes it to the ropes. Running knee by Akiyama but a high kick by Danielson. German suplex by Danielson. Exploder by Akiyama and the low running knee! Double running Busaiku knees and both guys are down. FIGHTING SPIRIT! Both guys trade elbows in the center of the ring but Akiyama drops Danielson. Wrist clutch Exploder attempt by Akiyama but Danielson escapes. Hard knee to the chest of a charging Akiyama and Danielson is setting up the Busaiku Knee. Danielson nails him and that’ll do it!

Winner: Bryan Danielson

Rating: ****. Really, ya love to see it. Akiyama getting his due in America this late in his career and guys like Danielson and Kingston getting to pay homage to their heroes. Strong match here

Danielson now stares down Kingston and shakes the hand of Akiyama. Danielson flips Kingston off and Akiyama slaps him in the face for the disrespect! Danielson apologizes and then kicks Akiyama low! Kingston charges the ring and double legs Danielson, but here’s Claudio! FTR are here and it’s a pull apart brawl as we go off the air!

Final Thoughts: Important Collision tonight, as it did a very good job of setting up a lot of the matches for Revolution. The main event was a blast and the following angle helped build up the Danielson and Kingston match, as well as FTR vs. BCC. Seems like Serena Deeb might be the first challenger for a certain free agent signing, Malakai Black got a singles win, and Mark Briscoe is back. All in all, an entertaining show tonight. 7.75/10.
