Indie Game Publisher Versus Evil Is Shutting Down

After a decade in business, indie game publisher Versus Evil who you might know from games like Stray Souls, UnMetal, Almighty: Kill Your Gods and more has announced that it will be shutting down.

All staff are being laid off as a result, days before the end of the year and the beginning of the holiday season. Truly another unfortunate sight right before the end of 2023.

“Today is a sad day. After 10 wonderful years, Versus Evil is shutting its doors,” the publisher began in a statement posted to its official Twitter page.

“We’ve loved bringing you the best indie games we could find & sharing so many happy memories with you all, our amazing community! From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for everything!”

Versus Evil is the second studio to close this week, with First Contact Entertainment announcing on Thursday that it would be shutting down as well, a result that it blamed on “the lack of support for VR within the industry.”
