After a press release suggested the next Destiny 2 expansion might still make its February release window, Bungie has now officially confirmed it’s been delayed.

“The Final Shape” will now arrive on 4th June 2024, which will allow the team to deliver an “even bigger and bolder vision”. In a post on its official website, Bungie further explains how it realises “delays aren’t fun” but mentions how this expansion is the culmination of the first ten years of Destiny storytelling, for Guardians everywhere.

“We want to honor that journey, so we’re taking the time we need to deliver an even bigger and bolder vision, one that we hope will be remembered and treasured for years to come.”

While the expansion will no longer make February, the Season of the Wish will still run from late November until February next year. Bungie has also outlined what else will take place between now and June:

“Next, we’re moving Guardian Games up to March with a refreshed focus on class vs. class competition. Then, beginning in April, we’re delivering a two-month content update available to everyone called Destiny 2: Into the Light, which will prepare players for their Guardian’s journey into the Traveler. All of this is in addition to the ongoing efforts from our PvP Strike Team, including three new PvP maps dropping in May.”

More information about what’s to come will be shared in April, including “all-new gameplay” to showcase the “significant content additions” the team is currently working on.

This latest announcement follows on from a development update earlier this month when Bungie mentioned how it was aware it had “lost” a lot of the community’s trust after the troubled release of Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion. A report also revealed how Bungie was running at 45% below its revenue projections for the current year.
