[UPDATE]Ubisoft Is Reportedly Testing In-Game Ads In Old Assassin’s Creed Games
UPDATE – Ubisoft has issued a statement to The Verge regarding these ads:
We have been made aware that some players encountered pop-up ads while playing certain Assassin’s Creed titles yesterday. This was the result of a technical error that we addressed as soon as we learned of the issue.
Ubisoft later released a statement from the official Assassin’s Creed Twitter account, explaining the error a little more clearly.
We have been made aware that some players encountered a pop-up message in-game while playing certain Assassin’s Creed titles yesterday.
This was the result of a technical error that has now been fixed. Our intention was to display a promotion for Assassin’s Creed Mirage as part of the franchise news in the main menu of other Assassin’s Creed games.
Unfortunately, this technical error caused the promotion to appear in one of our in-game menus instead. We want to ensure the best player experience possible, and these disruptive pop-ups were promptly removed once we learned of the issue.
We appreciate your understanding as we investigate the cause of the issue.

Ubisoft appears to be testing out in-game ads in earlier Assassin’s Creed titles, with videos popping up on social media showcasing an Assassin’s Creed Mirage Black Friday ad appearing in 2018’s Odyssey.
The gameplay video shows the user opening the map during gameplay, only to be greeted by the aforementioned AC Mirage ad. It comes up with an option to buy the game or simply cancel the ad. They choose the latter, and the map opens up as per normal.
