Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Dev Explains Why Venom’s Fire Weakness Was Cut From The Game

Insomniac Games‘ Bryan Intihar has revealed the reason it decided not to make Venom weak to fire in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

The comic book incarnation of the iconic villain is know to be weak to both fire and high frequency sounds, although in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Venom is impervious to fire attacks. Speaking with IGN, Intihar explained that this was a decision decision and not a case of a continuity error.

Fire doesn’t hurt the Symbiote and Venom in this game, did you guys notice that? So originally, there was like five different weaknesses of the Symbiote, and we were like, ‘Oh my god, how are we going to communicate all these different things?’

We were like, ‘you know what, for our universe, we’re just going to keep it to high frequency sound. Someone was like, ‘why is Harry not getting hurt by the fire?’ and it’s like, if you noticed, in the rescue Tombstone mission, Pete purposefully says, ‘Is the fire bothering you?’ and he goes, ‘no, I don’t feel anything’, just so I can make sure that we cover our bases.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was released on October 20, 2023 exclusively for the PS5, and you can read our full review here. Earlier this week, Insomniac Games confirmed which version of the Wall-Crawler would be its main Spider-Man going forward for the series.
