Diversion3 And New Regency Pictures Announce A Barbarian Video Game Adaptation In The Works
Popular horror film Barbarian is the latest from the genre to be getting a video game adaptation, with Diversion3 Entertainment leading the project creatively in collaboration with New Regency Pictures.
In the film, a woman arrives at a rental home she’s booked to learn that there’s already a man staying there, and despite that still decides to spend the night. What follows is much more terrifying than she could’ve imagined.
“We’re very excited to work with the team at New Regency to expand on the settings, characters, and creatures of Barbarian,” said executive producer at Diversion3 Tim Hesse.
“The film did a magnificent job of not only scaring audiences with its unexpected and horrifying twists and turns, but also in establishing strong characters thrown into terrifying situations. We look forward to exploring these themes further in the game.”
For New Regency’s part, chairman and chief executive officer Yariv Milchan says “expanding the Barbarian universe into gaming provides a new way to capture the horror that made the film such a success. We’re thrilled to collaborate with the incredibly talented team at Diversion3 Entertainment to immerse new and existing fans in this world.”
There’s still very little detail about what exactly this game will be, or who will even be the team developing and publishing it. Diversion3 Entertainment has previously worked on both Friday The 13th: The Game and Evil Dead: The Game.
For this new Barbarian game to be an asymmetric 4v1 game or something of that ilk could very well be the case, though a much more interesting premise could perhaps be a new single-player adventure within the world of Barbarian.
