System Shock Remake Rated For PS5, PS4 By The ESRB

The Entertainment Software Rating Board has posted up a listing for the System Shock Remake on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One, suggesting a release date may not be too far away.

While Nightdive Studios is keeping mum on an exact release date right now, the developer said back in June that the console versions of the System Shock remake still need ‘a few rounds of QA.’ For now, here’s the ESRB description for the game:

This is a first-person shooter in which players assume the role of a hacker trying to fight his way out of a deserted station in the year 2072. Players use machine guns, shotguns, blasters, and laser swords to kill hostile enemies (e.g., mutants, cyborgs, security robots) in frenetic combat. Fighting is highlighted by realistic gunfire, explosions, and blood-splatter effects. Some weapons cause enemies to explode into blood and viscera.

Players can also inflict severe damage on corpses (i.e., post-mortem damage), resulting in severed body parts that remain on the ground. One puzzle prompts players to locate a severed human head in order to progress. Some locations depict large blood pools and/or piles of viscera atop hospital beds/slabs. The word “sh*t” appears in the game.

System Shock Remake takes place on an abandoned space station where players must the malevolent SHODAN, which wish hellbent on destroying humanity. The basic principle remains the same, but Nightdive Studios has completely overhauled the System Shock experience with new high-definition visuals, enhanced controls, a fresh user interface, and remastered sound effects and music.
