Tencent To Become Techland’s Majority Shareholder, Techland Will Retain IP Ownership And Creative Freedom

Tencent will have another finger in another developer’s pie, as it’s now been revealed that the company is set to become the majority shareholder of Techland, the studio behind the Dying Light franchise.

Chief executive officer of Techland Pawel Marchewka announced the news in a blog post, while also clarifying that he will keep his post, and the team will be allowed to “retain full ownership of our IPs, maintain creative freedom, and continue to operate the way we believe is right.”

“Teaming up with Tencent will allow us to move full speed ahead with the execution of the vision for our games.

We have chosen an ally who has already partnered with some of the world’s finest video game companies and helped them reach new heights while respecting their ways of doing things.”

Marchewka calls this new partnership and ownership the “start of a new chapter of Techland’s history.”
