Elder Scrolls VI Exclusivity Is Still In Question, As The Game Is Still Years Away

With the topic of exclusivity being a central focus in the FTC v Microsoft trial, it’s no surprise that once again The Elder Scrolls VI is being brought up, though we don’t have any more answers than we did before.

While on the stand, Phil Spencer was asked about whether or not the next mainline entry in Bethesda’s massive fantasy series would be a title exclusive to the Xbox platform, and in response Spencer wouldn’t confirm that to be true.

“I think we’ve been a little unclear on what platforms it’s launching on, given how far out the game is. It’s difficult for us right now to nail down. It’s so far out it’s hard to understand what the platforms will even be at this point.”

What makes it most confusing however is that we thought we already had an answer for this from an interview Spencer did back in 2021. Regarding that interview, Spencer said,

“I don’t know that I’ve made a public statement saying that [Elder Scrolls VI would be an Xbox exclusive]/ When I said it I believed it was [true], but if you ask me today I can’t recall a public statement.”

While this doesn’t answer the question as to whether or not it’ll be an exclusive to Xbox title, it does point to how far away we still are from seeing Elder Scrolls VI release.

By the time it does happen, Bethesda might’ve set a new record for time between a game’s official announcement and its eventual launch.
