Sony Has Shutdown Concrete Genie Developer PixelOpus

Sony has shut down its studio PixelOpus, the team behind Concrete Genie and Entwined, the studio announced on its official Twitter account.

“Dear friends, our PixelOpus adventure has come to an end. As we look to new futures, we wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to the millions of passionate players who have supported us, and our mission to make beautiful, imaginative games with heart. We are so grateful.”

The studio will officially close on June 2, 2023.

PixelOpus began as a Sony subsidiary when it was established in 2014, and now Sony’s shuttering of the studio comes just before it would be hitting its 10 year mark.

There’s been no word from PixelOpus or Sony as to what will happen to the people at PixelOpus, if they’ll be placed at other teams within Sony or if they’re all laid off.

Both Entwined and Concrete Genie received BAFTA nominations when they launched, and many players adored how PixelOpus approached complex themes in their narratives.
