PS5 Stock Availability Results In Scalped Console Prices Decline Dramatically

Remember back when PS5 was hard to get hold of and scalpers snapped up most of the remaining stock, only to flog them at an exorbitant price? Well, the tables have been turned! Thanks to PS5 now being readily available at retailers, scalped console prices have now plummeted to an all-time low.

PS5 stock was extremely limited during the months following launch, and continue that way for nearly two years or so. The main culprit was the lack of vital components and the global semi conductor shortage brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. While COVID-19 obviously hasn’t gone away, the world isn’t in a state of lockdown as it during the PS5’s launch window.

Jim Ryan, head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, revealed earlier this year that the PS5 stock shortage is now over, which has resulted in a massive spike in sales for the console across the globe.

Fortunately, this means that the days of forking out for double the price of the PS5 are now over, with scalpers having to adjust their costs due to increasing stock.
