Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls Episode Mode Is About 10 Hours, But Won’t Actually Have Any Fights

Takeshi Yamanaka, Producer on Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls, has revealed details on the game’s Episode Mode, clarifying that it won’t actually play out like a traditional fighting game narrative where you have frequent fights that punctuate the storytelling.

Speaking with 4Gamer, Yamanaka-san revealed that Episode Mode has “enough content to provide nearly 10 hours of gameplay in total,” which plays out as “a story using motion comics.” When asked if there were any actual matches to play in between these segments, he simply replied, “no.”

He added “once you start Episode Mode, the story will progress even if you leave it alone. You can fast-forward by pressing a button, or pause and enjoy the illustrations at your leisure, but it’s designed to be enjoyed in the same way as reading a comic book.” So, from the sound of things, the story mode something you’ll sit back and watch rather than actually play.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is currently in development for PC and PS5, and takes the form of a 2.5D fight that allows players to choose from an ensemble of iconic Marvel characters. Fighting Souls supports a 4v4 system allowing you to alternate between one primarily combatant and three assist fighters, which can be called into battle for extra offence or enabling the lead character to be swapped out for other fighters.
