Amazon Requests Rewrites For Mass Effect TV Series To Appeal To Non-Gamers

The Mass Effect TV series has reportedly been requested to undergo rewrites in order to make it more appealing to non-gamers.

According to The Ankler, Peter Friedlander, the newly-appointed Head of Global TV for Amazon MGM Studios, has started reading scripts in order to make firm decisions on in-development projects at Prime Video. Mass Effect is of course one of these projects, which has seen requests to undergo rewrites, with The Ankler describing it as a “pricey genre drama” and is apparently “on the verge” of being ordered.

Not much is known about the Mass Effect TV series as this point, although in November last year, the head of the series, Mike Gamble, revealed it would be focussing on an original story rather than a retelling of Command Shepherd’s exploits from the original trilogy.

We’ve been partnering closely with Amazon on [the series], and we’re really excited with what the talented team over there is coming up with. The writers room is going strong, and we’ve got a lot figured out about how it fits within the Mass Effect canon, and where it sits in respect to the new game. The show will explore a brand-new story within the universe’s timeline, and will be set after the original trilogy. It won’t be a retread of Commander Shepard’s story — because after all … that’s YOUR story, isn’t it?

In related news, BioWare is currently working on the next instalment in the Mass Effect video game franchise, although there’s little known on the project currently and a release date has yet to be announced.
