Final Fantasy XIV Hatching Tide Is Back For 2026- Is It The Best FFXIV Event To Date?

Easter has arrived in the wonderful world of Eorzea, with the Final Fantasy XIV Hatching Tide event now running until April 6th at 14.59 PM GMT (7th April at 00.59 AEST). This is an annually returning event, with new rewards and quests offered to players each year.

Its an EGGxplosion

During the event, you need to talk to the Stylish Dreamer, which is located at X10.2 Y9.4 in Old Gridania. After speaking with this NPC, you will be guided to multiple different NPCs around the location of Gridania. This is one of the starting zones of the game; you will need to have achieved level 15 to access this location if you have started in one of the other zones.

As you explore the area, you need to find certain NPCs marked in yellow circles on the mini-map. The first one is located at X11.7 Y12.3 in New Gridania; this is Nonotta, who will be a recurring character during this questline. You will then have to visit X11.8 Y13.3. There are several NPCs in a small location that you will chat with to continue the questline. After this it is back to Nonotta at 11.7 Y12.3, still in New Gridania.

Once you have updated her, it’s time to find the herbalist from the original cutscene; this is located back in Old Gridania, at X10.4 Y6.4. This NPC is called the Bespectacled Elezen. Now, this actually took me a minute to find, but this character is hiding behind the wooden wall near Jonathas. Keep in mind that you can use the aetheryte system to teleport around the map rather than walking from location to location. You will find out the mystery Elezen’s name and have to speak with him again in Old Gridania at X13.7 Y9.3. After some amusing dialogue and a cutscene, it’s back to X10.2 Y9.0 to unlock the main part of the event.

Eggcellent Time

Once you have talked to the Egg Usher, at the same location as the previous quest part ending, you will be teleported into an instance with the new harvesting tool. You have a set time period to cut down as many of these leafkins as possible while gathering eggs. The first time you do it, there is a tutorial on the three different actions that have been added to your hot bar. Note that this event is repeatable and has to be repeated if you wish to unlock the extra items from the NPC after finishing the event.

The main three actions you are given are a dash forward which cuts everything in front of you, a small AoE slice attack, and you also have a limit break that will charge, and the 3rd action will destroy pretty much every Leafkin in that location. You will run from small instance area to small instance area, destroying as many Leafkin as possible.

This was such a fun event, and Square Enix has put so much love recently into the seasonal event items and questlines that it has been a breath of fresh air. In previous years it was pretty much just ‘go talk to NPCs,’ and that was it, but the most recent offerings have involved either fates or the Halloween event repurposing an old dungeon to make it more fun.

Overall Thoughts And Event Rewards!

I really hope this continues for future events, and they reuse some other stuff they have in the game to add some flair to these yearly events. It makes it more fun to grind for the rewards, plus remember, if you do miss the rewards, they will be added to the Square Enix store a year later for real money, so it’s best to try and get them now for free (though it would be cool if they added some of the older items as quest rewards in the future).

Once you have done the instance, you will be thrown into a cutscene; this will give you one set of glasses and a face-wear version of the glasses. Facewear is a system they added so you can add certain glasses without having to either equip them or glamour over a headpiece. This allows you to have your normal armour and the glasses at the same time.
