Expedition 33 Wins GOTY As Xbox Takes Home Two Awards At The Golden Joysticks 2025

Today wasn’t just about the Xbox Partner Preview Showcase – it’s also been a night for celebrating the best games of the past 12 months, with the Golden Joystick Awards taking place over in London.

Unsurprisingly, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was the talk of the show, with the game taking home four awards including the big Game of the Year award that was voted on by the public.

In terms of Xbox’s own studios, Minecraft took home the “Still Playing” award for consoles and PC, while The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was named the “best remake/remaster” in another public vote.

“Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was the biggest winner of the night winning – Ultimate Game of the Year, Best Storytelling, Best Visual Design and Best Soundtrack. The game’s stars Jennifer English won Best Lead Performer for her role as Maelle, and Ben Starr won Best Supporting Performer for his role as Verso. Sandfall Interactive, the developers of the game, also won Studio of the Year.

Other multiple award winners included Ghost of Yōtei, which picked up two awards for Best Audio Design and Console Game of the Year; Hollow Knight: Silksong for Best Indie Game – Self-Published and PC Game of the Year; Grand Theft Auto VI for Best Game Trailer and Most Wanted and PEAK which won two awards for Best Multiplayer Game and Streamers’ Choice.”

Altogether, there were 12 games in the running for Game of the Year at the Golden Joysticks 2025, with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle being one of them. Unfortunately it didn’t end up winning anything, but it’s in good company – not even Split Fiction was able to win an award this year, so the competition was extremely fierce!
