This GBA SP-style controller is the ideal accessory for retro gamers on Android, iPhone, and Switch

We’re a big fan of nostalgic accessories here at Pocket Tactics, and the new Abxylute M4 has caught our attention. It’s a pretty simple snap-on magnetic controller compatible with Android, iPhone, and the Nintendo Switch, but it looks like someone ripped the bottom off a Game Boy Advance SP and modded it slightly for 2025. That might sound like a bad thing, but I’m actually describing my ideal mobile controller.

Abxylute is launching the new M4 controller via a Kickstarter campaign, which is kicking off on November 13. If you’re one of the early bird backers, you can save 20% on the $49.99 asking price and pick up the accessory for just $39. That price point makes the M4 cheaper than a lot of the top picks from our guide to the best mobile controllers, including the Backbone PlayStation Edition and the Razer Kishi Ultra.

So, what are you getting for your money? Well, the Abxylute M4 is a Bluetooth controller that doesn’t require any third-party software to use, so you can connect it to your phone or Switch and start gaming right away. According to the brand behind the accessory, it’s capable of at least 10 hours of gaming on a single charge, boasts dual thumbsticks, and weighs just 55g. That last bit is pretty important, as the more portable a mobile controller, the better.

As we mentioned earlier, the M4 attaches magnetically, provided your phone is MagSafe or Qi2 compatible. Don’t worry if not, though, as the accessory also comes with an adhesive adapter to stick it to the back of your device. Or, you can just use the M4 as you would any other Bluetooth controller. The decision is yours, but it should make playing the best mobile games even more engaging.

If you’re eager to pick up the Abxylute M4, the Kickstarter campaign runs from November 13 to December 12, so you’ve got a month to contribute. The earlier you order, the sooner you should receive your accessory, with shipping kicking off in mid-December.
