As a Mass Effect nerd, this is what I want to see on N7 Day

I love Mass Effect. To this day, it remains one of my all-time favorite franchises, so it should come as no surprise that I eagerly anticipate N7 Day (November 7) every year. Recently, I replayed the trilogy with Mass Effect Legendary Edition, and I even took a trip to Andromeda, as well. So, I have some thoughts on things I’d love to see BioWare or EA announce for N7 Day on Friday.

First and foremost, I want some news on the elusive Mass Effect 5. Besides The Witcher 4, the upcoming RPG is easily my most anticipated game, yet we know precious little about it, save for our favorite Asari, Liara T’Soni, making a welcome comeback. I’m nervous for ME5, knowing that it’s more than likely going to make or break BioWare as we know it today.

EA deemed Dragon Age: The Veilguard a failure, which puts a lot of pressure on the BioWare team to perform with Mass Effect 5. The developer is one of my favorite studios, and I hate to see it struggle almost as much as I abhor Electronic Arts’ disdain for fantasy games (you might hate DA for some reason, but remasters of the first three games would print money, EA, trust me). However, catching a glimpse of the new game may alleviate some of my fears. That, and I just think a fresh peek at the game is long overdue.

Beyond new information on Mass Effect 5, I’d like to see an announcement that states that Mass Effect Legendary Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, possibly with ports for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S as well. The remastered trilogy was released on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 in 2021, bypassing the Nintendo Switch. Well, as we know, the new hardware is more than capable of running highly demanding games (just check out my Cyberpunk 2077 review for an example), so it feels right that MELE should come to the Switch 2.

The Mass Effect trilogy remains one of the most beloved series of games in history, and Mass Effect 2 is actually one of my favorite titles, period. I’d love to see a new wave of players experience the greatness, as well as finally be able to play the game on the go without the need to own Valve’s expensive PC handheld or one of the best Steam Deck alternatives.

Beyond the trilogy, an update on the Amazon TV series would be great – with how fantastic the Fallout show is, I really can’t wait to see what they do with Mass Effect. As BioWare’s RPG franchise is one of my favorites, I’m especially keen to see what decisions make the cut. One of the things that people love the most about Mass Effect is the choices you make, and the lasting impact that they can have. Something you choose to do in the first game might not show its ramifications immediately, but you’ll feel them by the end of Mass Effect 3.

However, I could be getting ahead of myself there, as we don’t actually have confirmation that Amazon is adapting the story from the games; it could follow completely different characters, which is perhaps the safer option, as you won’t disappoint a legion of fans purely because you don’t abide by their decisions in their playthroughs. I’d be happy to see some new faces, but I’ll be even happier to get some information about the show on November 7.

N7 Day 2025: a person lookin over the horizon on a planet

Finally, and this may turn some heads, I want a port or remaster of Mass Effect Andromeda on Nintendo Switch 2. It’s by far the most unlikely to happen, but I don’t hate MEA. In fact, I actually quite like it, and while I agree that it pales in comparison to the trilogy, it’s a crying shame that it never got a sequel, as it was all building up to something great. On my recent revisit to Heleus, I actually found myself enjoying the galaxy and story more than I remember, and I’m one of the few who was more forgiving of the game back in 2017.

We know that Mass Effect 5 is incorporating Andromeda to some extent, so giving more players the chance to experience Ryder’s story ahead of its eventual release seems like a good idea to me. But what do I know? I’m just a die-hard fan who wants more out of one of her favorite universes.

While I’ve long given up hope of a Dragon Age Switch port, I think Mass Effect Switch ports are a possibility. However, out of all the things I hope to see on Friday, I think more information about the TV show is more likely. What do you think? Should one of the best RPG series of all time come to the Nintendo Switch 2? Let me know over on the Pocket Tactics Discord; we can be inevitably disappointed on N7 Day together.
