While the deals and the stats of the gaming world are important, nothing would happen without the research, funding and, of course, development that goes into making a great game.
So here’s a collection of the most exciting new mobile games right now, the developers and publishers behind them, and why, exactly, they’ve made the cut.
Angry Birds Bounce
Angry Birds Bounce marks the first new mobile game in Rovio’s flagship franchise since the acquisition by Sega, and it’s available exclusively to Apple Arcade subscribers. The series’ staple slingshot makes another appearance, but recalibrated to launch those riled-up birds vertically.
Angry Birds Bounce takes heavy inspiration from the brick breaker genre, which game lead Bryan Cook revealed to us was selected from a wide pool of ideas “when it came time to work with Apple Arcade”.
Goat Simulator 3: Multiverse of Nonsense
Worlds’ worth of disorder just hurtled onto mobile with Goat Simulator 3: Multiverse of Nonsense.
In this latest series instalment, Coffee Stain Publishing tasks players with headbutting their way through alternate realities and causing the most chaotic chain reactions possible, with over 100 pieces of gear to choose from and eight goats with the wackiest of abilities.
Mo.co
Following an invite-only release this March, Supercell’s Mo.co is finally accessible to all interested players globally, no invitation needed.
While the Clash of Clans maker is keeping the rollout lowkey, that shouldn’t stop portal-hopping enthusiasts from jumping in, exploring dungeons, fighting monsters and researching Chaos Energy across parallel worlds.
Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance TD+
Ironhide has launched an Apple Arcade edition of its premium tower defence game Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance TD, offering another way to play with its 15 heroes, 17 towers and over 40 varieties of enemy.
The Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance TD+ version also includes all DLC, offering even more high-stakes strategy and fast-paced battles for the tactically minded.
Persona 5: The Phantom X
The latest release in Atlus’ Persona series, Persona 5: The Phantom X is a mobile-first game developed by Black Wings Game Studio and published by Sega. As its name implies, the RPG is a Persona 5 spinoff set in modern Tokyo, echoing its source material’s calendar with a City Schedule feature and more.
The game is also part social sim and part dungeon crawler.
Suika Game+
Another Apple Arcade launch this week, Aladdin X’s Suika Game+ sees players organise falling fruit in a box. The aim of the game is to keep these fruits from overflowing the box, but if two of the same type make contact, they transform into even bigger fruits – from tiny cherries to gigantic watermelons.
While bigger fruits means a bigger challenge, combining two watermelons without an overflow clears the box, allowing players to continue racking up points without technically starting over.
Trophy Hunter
Trophy Hunter marks Ten Square Games’ third project in the hunting game genre, this time taking a competitive skill-based approach with three-round PvP duels.
Fast reaction times are a must, with precision under pressure at the core of its design. Players can also upgrade their base, weapons and ammo as they fight for the edge in battle.
