Obsidian Responds To The Outer Worlds 2 $80 Price: ‘We Love To Make Games. We Don’t Set The Prices For Our Games’
The Outer Worlds 2 Game Director, Brandon Adler, has responded to news that the Obsidian-developed RPG will retail for $79.99/£69.99, making it clear that the studio isn’t responsible for setting the prices of its games.
In case you missed it, Microsoft announced recently that a number of its first-party games would see a price increase for holiday 2025, and The Outer Worlds 2 is the first example of this. We’d already got a tastes of pricier games with the Nintendo Switch 2, as Mario Kart World costs $79.99.
Naturally there’s been some backlash about the pricing, and now, speaking to GamesRadar at Summer Game Fest, Adler is keen to set things straight.
We’re a game developer. We love to make games. We don’t set the prices for our games. Like, personally, as a game developer, I wish everybody could play my game, because that’s what I want out of this whole thing. But for the reasons and so like, why the $79.99 price point, you’d have to honestly talk to the Xbox folks.
The Outer Worlds 2 has a release date of October 29, 2025 and will launch for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. The sequel sees players following the daring Earth Directorate agent, who must unearth the source of an alarming number of rifts that are threatening to annihilate the human race. Your mission leads you to Arcadia, which is home to skip drive technology, where your decisions will determine the fate of not only the colony, the whole galaxy.
