Ex-Star Wars Battlefront 2 Dev Wants To ‘Get The Band Back Together’ To Work On Battlefront 3

Mats Helge Holm, a developer who worked on Star Wars Battlefront 2, has revealed in a post on Reddit that he’s eager to ‘get the band back together’ to work on Star Wars Battlefront 3.

In case you haven’t been keeping up with Star Wars Battlefront 2, the game has seen a resurgence in popularity as of late thanks to fans on Reddit and TikTok, who have been encouraging people to get back into the action after putting the game down after support ended in 2020.

According to Holm, a number of developers who worked on Star Wars Battlefront 2 have expressed interest in working on a third instalment in the popular sci-fi shooter franchise. When quizzed by a fan about which developers would be willing to return to EA for a potential Star Wars Battlefront, he replied:

Me, and having heard around my group of ex-colleagues, we want to get the gang back together.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 was released for PS4, PC, and Xbox One in November 2017, and is the sequel to 2015’s reboot of the franchise. The original Star Wars Battlefront games were released during the PS2 era with Star Wars Battlefront (2004) and Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005), and while a third game was reportedly “pretty much done” by 2008 according to Steve Ellis of Free Radical Design. Sadly, Star Wars Battlefront 3 never saw the light of day and was cancelled after LucasArts couldn’t commit to “spend big” on marketing the title.

More recently, a Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection was released for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One in March 2024, featuring online multiplayer and Galactic Conquest mode.
