2K Is Reportedly Prepping A BioShock Franchise Announcement, And Rapture Seems To Be A Key Focus

A report on MP1st has claimed that 2K is preparing an announcement related to the BioShock franchise, and that it may take place by the end of summer this year.

Right now there’s no details on what the announcement could pertain to, but there’s obviously the new BioShock game in development at Cloud Chamber that’s been in the works for years now, plus of course the Netflix movie adaptation. However, the report also offers the possibility of a full remake or remaster of the original BioShock.

Regardless of what actually is announced, MP1st notes that it has heard that Rapture will play a major role in the announcement, with references to the first BioShock uncovered by the site that does seem to point to a possible remake of that title. It does note, however, that the movie may very well be set in Rapture, hence the references to the city and the original game.

Details regarding Cloud Chamber’s BioShock 4 are largely being kept in the dark, but over the past few years we’ve heard a few tidbits sneak out thanks to job listings and rumours. For example, we know from a job listing that the game will be powered by Unreal Engine 5, while a repot from a known leaker back in 2023 claimed that the new BioShock was rebooted for the fourth time in Summer 2022.

A release date for the new BioShock game has yet to be announced. Last year an image of what is reportedly the first screenshot from the project leaked online. As for the movie, Netflix reportedly scaled back the project last year to offer a more personal point of view, but it’s still very much in the works.
