Sony Is Reportedly Working On PSSR 2 To Improve 4K/120 FPS Locked & Offer Support For Other Resolutions
YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead has revealed in a new video that Sony is working on a new iteration of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), dubbing it PSSR 2, with the format looking to make the feature higher quality going forward.
While he notes that Sony may not even come out and announce this new iteration of PSSR, Moore’s Law Is Dead notes that the company’s goal is to improve 4K resolution at 120 FPS locked as well as eventually offer support for other resolutions including 1440p and 1080p.
Sony, long story short, is looking to make it higher quality and also they want a performance mode for upscaling and 4K, 8K, and 1440p and 1080p eventually, so again, every game has a high refresh rate mode. […]They’re also working on some MFSR option where even if you don’t want to upscale to high frame rates for PSSR, they want to use what they’ve learned with PSSR to swap in and out base TAA with Sony’s version that uses AI upscaling even if you don’t for a higher frame rate so that games on PS5 Pro can just look better by firing to use this instead of normal TAA.

Mark Cerny, the lead architect on the PS5, previously said back in March during a chat with Digital Foundry that he wants to have something similar to FSR 4 available for the PS5 Pro in 2026, which he describes as the ‘next evolution of PSSR.’
