Shuhei Yoshida Suggests He Was Passed Over For PlayStation CEO Role As Sony ‘Didn’t Trust Me To Make The Best Business Decisions’

Shuhei Yoshida, who previously headed up Sony’s Worldwide Studios and later its indie efforts, has revealed during an interview with Game File that he wasn’t considered for the role of PlayStation CEO as he wasn’t trusted to make the best business decisions
Game File’s feature gave developers the chance to ask other industry folk questions, and in this case, Yoshida-san was asked by the CEO of Virtuos, Gilles Langourieux, “why are you not the boss of SIE today?” In response, the former Sony executive suggested that he simply isn’t cut from the same cloth as previous bosses such as Kazuo Hirai, Jim Ryan, and Andrew House.
Probably because they didn’t trust me as [to] making the best business decisions… I always wanted to do something interesting, you know, something new or innovative and never done before, that may become the great thing in the future, [that] kind of thing.
Look at all the heads of SIE in the past, other than Ken Kutaragi. He was crazy, right? So he did something totally crazy. But after Ken: Kaz [Hirai], Andrew [House], Jim Ryan, all business people, right? So there must be a reason for that.
In response to the suggestion that Yoshida was a “little too crazy for them,” he simply replied, “yeah.”
Yoshida revealed during an interview with AV Watch that he feels Sony should alter its way of thinking going forward, moving away from focussing on cutting-edge visuals in order to appeal to a broader market. Earlier in the year, Yoshida-san said that it ‘feels right‘ if the PS6 were to release in 2028, although he’s obviously not privy to inside knowledge anymore.
