Zynga’s 2024 puzzle RPG Game of Thrones: Legends has kickstarted its latest event with a Google Maps-powered twist, enabling fans to participate in a global treasure hunt.
Aptly named “The Dragon Egg Hunt”, the event has tasked players with finding virtual dragon eggs at various locations in the real world, reached by navigating a map inspired by the iconic Game of Thrones opening credits.
Players can also move from place to place using Google’s photorealistic 3D tiles.
The egg hunt is coming
Since its global launch on July 25th, 2024, Game of Thrones: Puzzles has generated $13.9 million in gross player spending, according to AppMagic data. Including soft launch revenue, total player spending has reached $14.2 million between the App Store and Google Play.
Precisely 50% of that revenue has come from players in the US, followed by 13% in Germany and 8% in the UK.
The title peaked at $2.8 million in earnings in August 2024 and recorded its worst month yet in January 2025, at $1.5 million.
The Dragon Egg Hunt event appears to be encouraging newcomers and returning players with various prizes set to be distributed to random participants, including a House of the Dragon egg and a Sansa Stark figurine.
“At Zynga, we take pride in our company’s history of creativity and innovation and are excited to be the first gaming partner to utilise Google Maps Platform’s highly technical and beautiful 3D tiles for this one-of-a-kind fan experience,” Zynga EVP of mobile games Yaron Leyvand.
“Our Game of Thrones: Legends players can now immerse themselves further into the Westeros universe in-game and explore the world with Google Maps, blending their worlds through this incredible global treasure hunt.”
Game of Thrones: Legends reached its first $1 million in 11 days following its global launch. The game’s release was advertised by Jon Snow himself, Kit Harrington.
