Backstage Reason For WWE Bringing Drew McIntyre Back Earlier Than Originally Planned

Drew McIntyre made a surprise return during the closing moments of last night’s Raw, attacking Sami Zayn.

As we previously reported, WWE creative had been discussing plans for his comeback. However, McIntyre’s return was sooner than expected.

According to backstage sources, the early speculation is that Bronson Reed’s injury at Survivor Series may have accelerated his timeline by a few weeks.

“The Scottish Warrior” had already been advertised for WWE’s holiday week live events, including the annual post-Christmas show at Madison Square Garden on December 26.

This would suggest that he would have returned to the ring soon regardless—potentially coinciding with Raw’s upcoming debut on Netflix on January 6.

Now, he’s officially back in the mix of storylines earlier than planned, adding a few weeks of creative to the mix heading into the MSG and Netflix debut shows.
