Concord Reportedly Cost Sony Upwards Of $200 Million
The budgets of the industries biggest games are in many cases a mystery. Game developers and publishers aren’t as transparent as say, movie production houses are, with how much things cost.
That’s why, even though many industry veterans called it bunk, a lot of people were ready to believe that Concord was a $400 million flop.
Even if the number isn’t exactly that high, a new report from Kotaku claims that the budget was at least half that supposedly crazy number. While covering the news of Firewalk Studios shutdown, Kotaku added that according to two of its sources, “the initial development deal for the game was just over $200 million.”
That’s what the budget allegedly was when Sony was first looking into Concord, and decided to partner with Firewalk back in 2021. The report goes on to clarify that the $200 million would not be enough to cover the game’s total development costs, marketing, and the official acquisition of Firewalk back in 2023.
So perhaps it didn’t get up to $400 million, maybe it didn’t even make it to $300 million. But the fact that it landed anywhere between $200 million and $300 million, to give a generous estimate, still says that Concord was a massively expensive game.
