Rumour — Crash Bandicoot 5 Was Shelved At Toys For Bob In Favour Of Live Service Games

Gaming history Liam Robertson has claimed in a recent report that Crash Bandicoot 5 was in development at Toys for Bob but ultimately cancelled by Activision as the publisher instead wanted to put more resource into live service games.

According to Robertson, Crash 5 was only in the early stages of production when it was canned, following lacklustre sales of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. Activision also dismissed any potential sequels to other single-player projects, including Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.

Following Crash 4’s release, Toys for Bob attempted to envision the future of the long-running platforming series with a small group of developers, with the resulting project referred to as Crash Bandicoot 5 internally. The report claims that this would have been a single-player affair and a sequel to Crash 4.

Crash 5 was reportedly set in a school for villainous children, with villains from previous games set to return. Another story concept seen in the report reveals Crash teaming up with Spyro the Dragon as a result of an interdimensional threat, stating “Crash and Spyro were intended to be two playable characters.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the fate of Crash Bandicoot 5. Back in July, a former concept artists at Toys for Bob said that the game was indeed in the works at the studio before it was cancelled, but didn’t go into any further details.
