It’s official, a Poppy Playtime movie is happening!
We’ve been speculating about the prospect of a Poppy Playtime movie for months, but now it’s official, Huggy Wuggy is coming to the big screen. On May 9, 2024, developer Mob Entertainment confirmed that it is working alongside Legendary Entertainment, who we have to thank for Pokémon Detective Pikachu, and Angry Films, to bring the popular horror series to life in an upcoming feature film. Yes, we’re excited too.
The announcement didn’t go much further than detailing the newfound relationship between Mob and Legendary, with the latter now in possession of live-action film and TV rights. With that in mind, we don’t have a clear idea of when the first Poppy Playtime movie could go into production, let alone arrive in theaters or on a streaming platform, but this news is still sure to delight fans of the series.
It’s fair to say that the success of the first Five Nights at Freddy’s film probably has a lot to do with Legendary Entertainment’s decision to purchase the rights to Poppy Playtime on the silver screen, but the middling reception of that movie doesn’t make us any less excited. In terms of creatives involved in the project, we know that Poppy Playtime is in the trusted hands of Angry Films’ Don Murphy and Susan Montford, who have plenty of experience bringing popular IP to life with their work on the Transformers franchise.

Is there going to be a Poppy Playtime movie?
Yes, there is a Poppy Playtime movie in the works. While we’d heard rumblings for a while, an official announcement in May 2024 confirmed that Mob Entertainment is working alongside Legendary Entertainment and Angry Films to turn the cryptic horror games into a feature film.
While we can’t wait for the Poppy Playtime movie, it looks like there might be a TV series somewhere down the line too, with Legendary Entertainment obtaining the rights to both live-action film and TV formats. So far, both Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 and Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 feature different antagonists, so that also supports a TV format, but it’s interesting to think about where Mob Entertainment and Legendary go with the film.
