Toys For Bob Hopes Spyro: A Realm Beyond Is ‘The First Of Many’ New Spyro Games

Spyro: A Realm Beyond developer Toys for Bob has expressed hope that the new game is just the “first of many” new titles for the purple dragon, as the series makes its comeback after 18 years.
Speaking with GamesRadar at Summer Game Fest, studio boss Paul Yan said he’s “proud of the team” who have been “paying attention and listening to the community.”
“If you stick too much to nostalgia, then you basically just rehash, and it’s like, ‘why did we do that?’,” he continued, noting that rehashing anything would mean “there’s no future the kind of gets out there.” Yan added that, “on the other extreme, you innovate too much, and all of a sudden you don’t even recognize what the character is and what the series is.”
Yan noted that “our goal is that we want Spyro to live on for a long time. We want not just one new game, but many new games. We hope that this is the first of many. So we’re going to have to take some risks. We’re going to have to move into new territory, and our goal is to make sure that that evolution is always speaking to something that is authentic and reverential to building on the foundation of what is truly Spyro, and then we’ll take some leaps.”
Spyro: A Realm Beyond is pencilled in for release in Spring 2027 for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. This isn’t the first time that Toys for Bob has worked on the much-loved platform franchise having released Spyro: Reignited Trilogy back in 2018, which remastered the first three games for modern platforms.
