Mortal Kombat 2 Ranks As One Of The Highest-Rated Video Game Movies On Rotten Tomatoes

Mortal Kombat 2, the second entry in the rebooted movie franchise based on the venerable fighting game series, now ranks as one of the highest-rated video game movies of all time on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film launches in cinemas tomorrow and at the time of writing has 67 reviews, which have given it a 76% Fresh rating, putting it in third place below Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Werwolves Within, which both sit at 86%. The audience score however paints a different picture, with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 sitting at an impressive 95%, beating out Werewolves Within, which scored 80%. By comparison, the Rotten Tomatoes score for Mortal Kombat (1995) sits at 44% and Mortal Kombat (2021) is at 55%.

Mortal Kombat 2 is directed by Simon McQuoid and is based on a script penned by Jeremy Slater. The film reunites a number of cast members from the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot, including Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, and Lewis Tan, while introducing newcomers including Karl Urban (Johnny Cage) and Tati Gabrielle (Jade). The plot sees the champions of Earthrealm battling against Shao Kahn and his allies, and in addition to Cage joining the fight, other characters such as has Queen Sindel, Quan Chi, and King Jerrod also appear.
