Sonya Walger Cast As Freya In Amazon’s God Of War Series

Variety has revealed that the part of Freya has been cast in the God of War live-action series from Amazon, with Sonya Walger taking on the role. Fans will recall that Freya is a crucial character in both God of War and God of War Ragnarök.
Lost fans should recognise Walger as she joined the series in its second season and remained through to the end, where she played the character of Penny. More recently she has appeared in For All Mankind and Night Sky.
The official blurb reveals that Freya is “a Vanir goddess and princess who practices powerful, ancient magic. She is also Odin’s (Patinkin) ex-wife and the former Queen of the Valkyries in Asgard, a title bestowed upon her on her marriage day. She is strong, insightful, and filled with regrets. When Freya’s unhappy marriage to Odin ended with her being exiled, she was cut off from her family, as well as her native land, Vanaheim. Freya has lived alone in Midgard for a century, a recluse in a hidden glade, feared by humans, and often referred to as the Witch of the Woods.”
Castings for God of War have been coming thick and fast the past few months. Earlier this month, it was revealed that Louis Cunningham had been cast as Modi, while Magni will be played by Ben Chapple and Evelyn Miller will assume the role of Gna. Other castings such has Ryan Hurst (Kratos), Max Parker (Heimdall), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Thor), and Mandy Patinkin (Odin).
The God of War live-action series is kicking off production this month and Amazon recently shared the first promotional image of the show, featuring Hurst and Callum Vinson (Atreus) striking a pose.
