Marathon Sales Estimated At 1.2 Million Globally But Only 19% Of That Figure Are On PS5

Rhys Elliot of Alinea Analytics has estimate that Bungie’s Marathon has sold around 1.2 million copies worldwide, a figure that has brought in about $55 million in revenue.
Interestingly, Elliot has stated that the majority of these sales are actually on the PC, with that version accounting for about 800,000 units. By comparison, the PS5 release makes up 217,000 units and the Xbox Series X/S made up 133,000 copies sold If we’re breaking that down, the PC eats up 70% of overall sales, while PS5 and Xbox Series X/S gobbled up 19% and 11 %, respectively.
The analyst added that Marathon players who have stuck around since the initial launch are contributing to a healthy 380,000 daily active user rate, with Steam users averaging a playtime of 27.8, PS5 at 16.5, and Xbox Series X/S at 17.3. Furthermore, Alinea Analytics states that 78.2% of Marathon players have dabbled in Destiny 2, while 62.7% of them have played Helldivers 2 and 55.9% have sampled Arc Raiders.
Meanwhile Forbes’ Paul Tassi backs up the figures with the following statement:
There are no plans to scale back or change content plans from here, as of now. That may change, but work is underway on future seasons, and the ultimate fate of the game will play out in time. Again, this was never going to be a Highguard/Concord situation, and it was ridiculous to think so. That doesn’t mean Marathon is the true hit it needs to be, but that’s a different conversation.
Marathon was released for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on March 5, 2026, and you can have a gander at our full verdict here.
