Hellraiser Revival Secures ESRB Rating Without Any Cuts, Confirms Saber Interactive

Tim Willits, Chief Creative Officer at Saber Interactive, has revealed that the upcoming horror romp Hellraiser: Revival has secured an ESRB rating, and what’s more, the team didn’t have take out any content.
“I can say that we have our ESRB rating, which was great, and we had to take nothing out for that,” Willits told IGN. The executive had previously told IGN that the wanted to “go as far as we possibly can” in regard to the game’s mature themes, so it looks like for North America at least, Saber Interactive has achieved just that.
This is obviously a good first step for Hellraiser: Revival, although we’ll just have to wait and see how other territories respond to its mature content. The franchise is absolute not light on M-rated material, with the series known for its gore, violence, sex, nudity, and BDSM themes.
We’re working with all the other ratings groups now, and I think that we’re going to do really well. It’s all context. It all fits with the IP. It is an artwork, and it is a mature game for mature audiences. We’ve stayed within those lines, and we’ve been very successful at moving the game through all rating boards.
Hellraiser: Revival is in development for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, and while a release date has yet to be confirmed, fans can expect a new story that is fully canon to the franchise. Set from a first-person viewpoint, the game follows Aidan, who must aid his girlfriend in her escape from the Labyrinth by harnessing the power of the mysterious puzzle box, known as the Genesis Configuration. Naturally, you’ll brush shoulders with the iconic Pinhead using the power of the box, while defending yourself against Cenobite cultists.
