Sony Reveals It’s Shutting Down Demon’s Souls Remake Dev Bluepoint Games

Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed it is shuttering Bluepoint Games, the studio behind the 2020 PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls.
The news comes five years after the format holder brought Bluepoint Games under the PlayStation Studios banner, as a result of the studio being shut down 70 people will be losing their jobs. Bluepoint Games had previously been working on a live service game based on God of War, but it was scrapped by Sony alongside another live service title in the works at Bend Studio.
A statement by Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Studio Business Group, was posted on ResetEra:
Rising development costs, slowed industry growth, changing player behavior, and broader economic headwinds are making it harder to build games sustainably. To navigate this reality, we need to continue adapting and evolving. We’ve taken a close look at our business to ensure we’re delivering today while still well-positioned for the future. As a result, we will be closing Bluepoint Games in March.
This decision was not made lightly. Bluepoint is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community. I want to thank everyone at Bluepoint for their creativity, craftsmanship, and commitment to quality. Where possible, we will work to find opportunities for some impacted employees within our global network of studios.
Bluepoint Games revealed in October 2025 that it was staffing up for a third-person melee action game, although sadly this will never see the light of day. In addition to its work on Demon’s Souls Remake, Bluepoint Games has worked on the lies of Shadow of the Colossus (2018) and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.
